The Irwin Family

“There is nothing more important to me than my family, not any U.S. Open win, Ryder Cup victory, nor any other thing in my professional life. Without the love and support of my family there really would not be the success that I have enjoyed.”
– Hale Irwin

The athletics, accolades and countless awards achieved by Hale over the years stem from a background and beginning that was a true testament to the meaning of support.  Born in Joplin, Missouri in 1945, but raised in Baxter Springs, Kansas, Hale’s parents provided him with the motivation, care and work ethic that have catapulted him to the top of the success ladder.  Aside from Hale’s dad spending countless hours showing Hale the technique and etiquette of the game of golf, Hale’s mother played an influential role in the development of his childhood and well into his college years.  Receiving high grades in school, working hard and making it fun while he was doing it, allowed Hale to achieve a scholarship to the University of Colorado to play two sports.  He maintains that it would not have been possible without the support he received from his family.

The values and ambitions that were instilled into Hale as a child and young adult have provided him with the knowledge and character to be a loving husband, supportive father and a grandchild’s number one fan.  Alongside his wife Sally, Hale maintains a handful of full-time jobs.  A touring professional golfer, an award winning golf course designer but most importantly, he is a family man that does not stray from his close-knit roots.
